Hi,
I played soccer, did a bicycle kick and landed at the tip of my left shoulder. The neck was also hit the ground during the fall. After the injury, I had severe pain for about 1. 5 weeks. The pain subsided and seemed to level off. A month after that, I went on a vacation. While sitting on the plane, I noticed that my left arm was having pain and fatigue problem. The feeling was extremely uncomfortable. During the trip I did some heavy weight lift and outdoor activities. I experienced pain, fatigue and numbness from my left shoulder to the tips of my fingers while I was walking to the restaurant. When I sat down at the dinner table, the pain and numbness subside about 90%.
I went to and orthopedist \ and had my first MRI done on my left shoulder. The doctor told me that I had a little inflammation on the shoulder. However, he thought my condition could be related to my neck and referred me to a neck doctor. The neck doctor ordered ordered an MRI on my neck. He said that the neck MRI showed that I have a moderate-to-severe cervical spinal stenosis at my C4/5/6. He said I have to be careful by not be involved in heavy sports or activities. He said I could take some medication or have in injection to relieve the numbness.
My question is: Could this whole thing started from my injury and it will improve over time or is this a condition that I will have for the rest of my life? Could it get worse and if it does, what could be the worst thing that could happen. Also, what can I do to improve my condition of numbness on my left arm, hand and fingers? Could swimming help?
Please advise.
Thank you,
Dean
