Hi,
I'm a 56 yr. old female w/chronic pancreatitis x 13 yrs. (from thin, narrow, p. duct), and hypothyroidism x 20 yrs. I'm seeing an ENT for dizzy/nausea/vertigo episodes. We're ruling out Meniere's among other things. I'm trying to learn more, to help him diagnose me. I'm wondering about my Eustachian Tube. My rt. ear has felt 'plugged' off/on the past few winters, w/hearing loss. A few times in the past, I had equilibrium problems after traveling over our local summit. Beginning in Sept., during heavy smoke from local fires, I've developed debilitating dizzy, etc. episodes. I take 12.5 mgs. Meclizine and 8mgs. Ondansetron (Zofran ODT) when these occur. I tend to have narrow ducts (biliary, pancreatic), and narrow sinus passages from my nostrils. I understand that the E. Tube can narrow w/age.
I've noticed the following:
1. When I quit lying/sleeping on rt. side, 'plugging' lessened immediately.
2. Rt. plugging often occurs/stays with incoming storms.
3. After taking Meclizine, the plugging goes away, and stays away for awhile.
4.Sometimes, after taking Meclizine, when I close my eyes, multiple lights flash, like lightening.
What are your thoughts about all of this? I'm awaiting a phone call from my Dr., as he just put me on a low salt diet, to see if I have a chemical imbalance in my ear fluids. I want to add some of the above info I've given you, to him, as I forgot to tell him everything at my last appt. on 12/12/14, when we decided to go the low salt route, following VNG results. They just basically found a little difference in rt. ear.
Thank you so very much!
Robin
