How do we answer Dad, who has vascular dementia and has just begun asking us where mom is, and she has been dead for almost 5 years. This past 2 weeks he has been asking if she ran of with another man, or just left him, because she wasn't home this morning( which a week later turned into) she hasn't been here for a week, why don't you know where she is? The question wasn't going away so we told him the truth gently and he was relieved that she was not with another man. Two different cousins have been with me when this has happened with Dad in the facility he is in , and they agreed we need to tell him. Problem is my sibling who was not there claims we are to never tell him mom is dead and she is talking with Alzheimers professionals he doesn't have Alzheimers, but vascular dementia) I talked with the manager and assistant of the facility and they both agreed with me on how my cousin and I handled it,when I told them in detail what
happened. Don't know how to get through to my sister that we all need to be on the same page and tell dad the same thing, not confuse him more. Any suggestions? Thank you!
