How To Wean Off Hydrocodone Without Any Withdrawal Symptoms?

I have been on Hydrocodone for about 4 months and want to get off them because I find myself taking more than the recommended dosage. Today is the first day I've tried to do without, so far so good, put I also take Xanax and have been for over twenty years put never taken the dosage that I was prescribed which was three times a day, never have taken them three times a day, I only take one at night and sometimes when I feel anxiety coming on. My question is how can get off the pain meds, I have made it through the day, once or twice I was having a high anxiety and then took a Xanax and talked it out, about how I was feeling this seem to help. Do you have any other suggestion for getting off pay meds.
