I Am 20 Years Old With No Other Health Conditions,

I am 20 years old with no other health conditions, but recently I noticed blood in the toilet after bowel movements. Sometimes going to the bathroom is painful, but if I bleed, I tend to bleed more when it isn't painful. At first I thought I had gotten my period, but found out that wasn't the case. The blood is right red. I know that I should go see my doctor, but I am embarrassed and wondered if it's anything I should be running to the doctor for, or is I can wait until my next appointment. Or maybe there is something I can try before going to my doctor. Thanks
