I am 35 y/o woman with hx of autoimmune encephalitis at age 16...no psych sx until age 25 other than circumstantial depression, cognitive change (memory) and headaches, muscular and peripheral pain. I have autoimmune gut issues and seem to be a poor absorber of meds in general. I was put on clozaril in 2008 and suffered many side effects including malignant tachycardia.....there were many hospital stays up to 2013 due to clozaril side effects (tonic clonic jerking and cognitive decline as well as cardiac arrhythmias). In 2015 I was started on Invega Sustaina injections while in hospital ( and put on multiple old time antipsychotics. While I returned to "consensus reality" 2 days after Invega by injection...I am completely aware of the intense headaches and feeling of a steel band pressing across my forehead. I am no stranger to pain, but my muscle spasms and visual/tactile sensitivities have increased with Invega (as they were on clozaril). (Noise is TOO loud, fabrics hurt my skin)_ I am on Invega Sustaina 117 mg per month. It has taken away the altered state of reality which was worsenind by multiple old time antipsychotics, but my auto immune inflammatory conditions have worsened, and my short and long term memory have been severely compromised. Are lower amounts of this medication (Invega Sustaina) ever used in a complicated case like mine? Is there any safe pain medications that can be used with Invega? Are there any cognitive enhancement protocols that address the side effects of this kind of drug?
