I am four weeks out of a total hip replacement and had a follow-up appointment with the surgeon (with Xray) and he said everything looked good and was solidly seated and said no restrictions on movement.
I told him about some recent
muscle spasms (or what I assumed to be) in the hip that were extremely painful and made the entire area rock hard, making sleep or comfort in any position nearly impossible. I'm not taking any prescription pain medication as it makes me very anxious, so aspirin and an occasional light muscle relaxant are my main
treatments. I use ice, which just seems to make it harder, but heat seemed to have little to no effect, either.
After a brief respite of about three days, the rock hard stiffness has returned; a little bruising, and some redness around the entire area and the only thing I can think of as a possible cause is sitting in a low, stackable chair for a few hours. Ironically, before the soreness recurred, I was having an exceptionally good day being able to support weight and walking with the cane as little more than a balancing device. I was very encouraged... until the stiffness/pain/redness/swelling returned late last evening.
I suppose my question is, does this necessitate a return visit to the surgeon, or is it just a normal reaction?
Thank you.
