I am male age 82. BMI 24. weight 82kg, height 1.8m
Have had tummy problems every day since last September, had all the tests and there is "nothing wrong" so diagnosed as IBS. Before I got this problem people all sald how fit I was, doing all kinds of work, living like a normal younger adult and on no medication at all.
Early this year atrial fibrillation appeared. I was not aware of this and cannot help thinking it was related or caused by IBS. Put on amiodorone and blood thinner which led to blood in urine. Bladder examined, nothing wrong so tablets stopped. Had internal cardioversion in April this year which was successful in restoring normal rhythm. Put on dronedarone 400mg to help rhythm and apixaban 2.5mg blood thinner twice a day. Check up Sept this year, ECG fine in all respects so cardiologist said continue with tablets until new year then perhaps they can be reduced.
All this time my main problem is IBS. I have had days of severe stomach cramps every few minutes during which I have to stop whatever I am doing because of the pain, they only lasted a few seconds. Now I have a pain in lower abdomen all the time, if I exert myself or stand up too long the pain gets very severe.
I have tried all the diets, no gluten, no dairy, fodmap etc etc.
I got blood in urine last week and diagnosed with urinary infection, put on antibiotic Trimethoprim 200mg 2x day for one week.
For the last week I also take mebeverine prescribed for stomach cramps. It has not helped.
I go to toilet an average of 5 times a day but for last 4 days only mucus comes out. I begin to get involuntary discharge which I have never in my life had before, this has happened in the night recently which I find disgusting.
I am tired and annoyed at not being able to do normal things.
ps. As a matter of fact my tummy problems started two years ago, I think after two general anaesthetics for cataract surgery, however from April to September last year all IBS vanished. I was in Sweden however the boat crossing was rough and I was very nearly vomiting. once off the boat the IBS had gone.
I thought this might be Sweden but this year I have been there again and had IBS all the time.
My doctor is a good man but says he can do nothing more for me. I am at my wit's end. You would be an angel if you could give me a path to getting better. Thank you and kind regards. Alan
