I have been diagnosed with plaquenil toxicity from taking plaquenil for my dermatomyositis for 15 years. I was diagnosed one year ago but my opthalmologist found it two years before this, sent me to a retina specialist and he said I wasn't taking enough to be having the toxicity. The second time I went to my opthalmologist, he was sick and went home. I got there before they called me to cancel. Anyway, they incorrectly told me that the other doctor I was seeing was an ophthalmologist but he was only an optometrist and I was more worried about my insurance paying because I had to see an opthalmologist. The optometrist came in; send everything was fine, handed me a new prescription so I made my own appointment the next year with my regular ophthalmologist that I had been seeing for 15 years. He immediately took me off the plaquenil and the next day I had to see their retina specialist. Of course, my eyes are really bad, can't drive at night, have lots of flashing circles, every time I open the refrigerator, watching tv etc. Both my good opthalmalogist and retina specialist from Mayo Clinic are retiring. I got a phone call from a ?nurse? transparency department and she apologized for my not getting the right care by the two (retina specialist and optometrist) . My retiring doctor from Mayo Clinic, of course, hesitated to say, but he gave me the inkling that it was my decision if I wanted to persue this situation with a complaint. What do you think?
