I Have Been Experiencing Facial Numbness Along My Cheek Bone

I have been experiencing facial numbness along my cheek bone on my right side that presented the first time 2 days ago, by the morning it had subsided and again last night re occured.
I have a damaged tooth on the lower right side, and I want to know if there is a possibility that the damaged tooth is causing numbness. I do not have pain in the tooth, just sensitivity, and it is a fairly large hole.
Would inflammation cause numbness that comes and goes? It is only located along my cheek bone, and feels like it's just the skin on the outside affected.
Or could this be something more sinister.
