I Have Been, Repeatedly, Smelling, What Smells To Me Like,

I have been, repeatedly, smelling, what smells to me like, burnt toast. This happens mostly, but not exclusively, at night. After doing a small amount of research, I am even more confused than ever. Being 62, the stroke connection is quite frightening. Is there any real connection there? What else could cause this phenomenon?
