I have had a persistent productive cough with copious amounts of very viscous salivate, that some times contains small red blood clots and has caused subsequent vomiting d/t the viscosity. Emesis has never contained blood. I, as well as my ENT were unsure if the cough was neurogenic in nature and if the bleeding was bronchial, and both agreed that a broncoscopy should be performed. My follow up with pulmonologist began with an asymptomatic MIC test, and a prescription for protonix 40mg Qday. Should I seek a second opinion, as my concern for blood tinged sputum should be more thoroughly examined?!
