Lately, I Have Been Having Really Sharp, Cramp Like, Pains

Lately, I have been having really sharp, cramp like, pains around my lower abdomen. Usually I get a similar, less painful, pain right before my menstrual cycle. However, it’s been two weeks, and it’s not due until next week. It’s constant and varies. So I randomly get the pain. Could it be because I just started on birth control?
