My 86 Yr Old Mother Had A Mild Heart Attack

My 86 yr old mother had a mild heart attack in Dec., and was found to have aortic stenosis. She had been treat ed for type 2 diabetes with metformin for years with good control, but was taken off that when it apparently caused kidney damage. Consequently, her doctors felt she could not tolerate the procedures necessary to treat the stenosis, and opted for medication therapy, including plavix and metaprolol. She takes Levemir 15 u nits / daily, but her daily glucose readings are up to 380 some days ( am)even with a fairly strict diet? What is the least harmful drug approach for lowering her sugar to a reasonable level, without exacerbating her other conditions?
