My daghter in law (29) has had boils on her skin ( armpits, groin, under the breasts, etc) for 6 or 7 years/ She had a baby last June, and another baby this August. She decide to get the boils checked out after having her last baby. One doctor lanced some of them, then sent her to a surgeon to have them surgically removed. A culture was done and discovered they were mrsa. A cat scan was done and a 2 inch abcess was in one lung. She was told it could burst anytime. She was put on 8 different antibiotics to try and dry up the lung abcess some before the lung surgery. It burst 2 weeks ago. She was told there is nothing that can be done at this point and that she could live 4 - 5 months or maybe a year if antibiotics have any effect on the mrsa. She has since had surgery on one armpit and is scheduled for a more extensive surgery on the other armpit. She was told having less of the mrsa on her skin will help her live longer. She is Diabetic and has psoriasis as well. She is now on oxygen. With the mrsa internal , how will the skin sugery extend her life?
Is it pretty much 100% sure that she will not survive this ? , what will most likely be the fatal complication.
