My Father, Age 63, Is Experiencing Pain On His Right

My father, age 63, is experiencing pain on his right side. It came on suddenly as he got up from the couch. It hurts when he takes a step, but the pain decreases when he adds slight pressure with his hand. It is not a sharp stabbing pain, but not mild enough to call it dull. He doesn't think it could be muscular in any way. He does have a kidney stone on his right side that has not yet emerged from the kidney (according to recent ultrasounds). However, he feels that this is not related to the stone. He has passed multiple stones and this pain is very different. I can't get him to the doctor. Finances are very tight for him. How can rule out anything serious?
