My Husband John, Age 82, Has A Severe Painful Case

My husband john, age 82, has a severe painful case of shingles, into his 4th week. He has finished valtrex, is on gammaneurontin for pain. The rash has almost cleared with no open sores. What else can be done for his pain, which is not only located in the original area? He was on a 1/2 strength valtrex, due to 4th stage kidney disease. He gets dizzy when he takes the gamma.
