My Mother Is 78 Years Old. She Has Been Having

My mother is 78 years old. She has been having pain in her rectum for several weeks. A GI doctor thought it might be a fissure in the rectum, which would heal in about 2 weeks. After 2-3 weeks she was still having pain, so the GI sent her for a CT (CAT?) scan, which revealed fluid in the rectouterine pouch. When her internist got the report, he set up an appointment right away for her to have an intravaginal sonogram, which she had today. She hasn't gotten the results from the sonogram yet, but after researching fluid in the rectouterine pouch, my mother is convinced that she must have ovarian cancer. I want to reassure her while she's waiting a couple of days for her doctor to call, that there could be other causes for the fluid. Are there, in someone her age???
