My mother is 94 and in a nursing home. Her cognition is good. She is on 2 ltrs of oxygen. Her vitals are good. On 8/31/2016, she was given Roxanol at 9:30 a.m. for leg pain. When I came in at 11:30 a.m., the nurse and aide were attending to her because she was coughing after eating. She stopped coughing and ate a little more. She is on pureed food and honey thick liquids. About 30 minutes later, her left eye started to roll to the back of her head and clear liquid was flowing out of the right side of her mouth. Her skin was "clammy". She became limp and appeared to stop breathing briefly. The charge nurse took her BP which was 122/74 and her temp was 99. She was put to bed. She slept from 1:30 p.m. and was still sleeping when I left at 8:45 p.m. She has not been the same since that day. She now has a blank stare, diminished appetite, and is uncommunicative although when I visited with her today and told her that I was going home and that a personal caregiver would be in to help her with dinner and I said ok? She responded "I guess it has to be" . I visit my mother every day. Other people have also noticed the change in her. I am quite concerned regarding the blank stare, loss of appetite and communication. bar
