Occasionally, I will be eating (not too rapidly but maybe a little fast), and I get a 2 or 3 second warning that something in my throat has closed and I suddenly pass out. If I am eating with someone else they immediately sense my sudden silence, a strained or peculiar look on my face, and ask if I am all right. It is too late by then and they try and catch me. Today, eating breakfast alone (a sunny-side up fried egg and buttered toast, cut into normal bites and all semi-soft and drinking orange juice), down I went onto the table and woke a minute later with the plate and glass broken on the floor and the dogs eating my breakfast. I always try and stop this from happening and once in a while I succeed (mind over matter), but mostly something just feels like it closes and I have no air and down I go . I would like to know what this might be and what I should discuss with my internist?
