Orthopedic surgeon question......how long should it take for my body to 'fill in' a hole in my leg where a femur was fractured, immobilized, and then plated and screwed together....accident happened on July 21st of last year; plate was just removed January 13th. Bone regrowth was fast, re-calcification was excellent, mostly worried about the hole....rest of 8" incision has healed over. Bandages using wet gauze technique are done daily and sometimes 2x, with wet(saline) gauze pushed into 1/2" deep 'hole. I'm male, 77, and in fairly good health---although immobilization in a rehab. center for several months exposed me to a bladder infection and a wound infection and overall deterioration of my leg/thigh muscles, tendons, etc. Only meds I now take is a daily regimine of Coumidin for a left leg blood clot over a decade ago, enalapril( half tab) for A-Fib.
I want an 'end date' or alternative wound treatment to speed up filling up the 'hole'. Advice?
p.s. both of my surgeons are excellent, one performing 22 operations on Stephan King.
