I am 10 weeks post triple arthrodesis surgery. I was in a splint and ace-wrap for 5 weeks after surgery, then a standard fiberglass cast for a month after that. Earlier this week, I was given a velcro strap walking boot but told to still remain fully non-weight bearing. My podiatrist told me to wear the boot as a removable cast (so I can begin post-cast skin care) and to always wear it when I left the house, but that I could take it off at home. I clarified this even further with the nurse and she reconfirmed that I can pretty much not wear it at all at home, as long as I am staying non-weight bearing. Is this normal? In all the followup blogs and instructions I ve seen elsewhere, the standard is only remove it for bathing/sleeping . I am happy to not wear the boot (it is quite heavy) but not at the possible risk of messing up my surgery or healing. I am an overweight but otherwise healthy 26 year old female. Previous ankle surgeries at 14 years old to remove a bar/tarsal coalition (bilateral). Thanks so much
