Suggest Remedy For Pain In Knee Due To Cartilage Being Rubbed Off

Hi, I'm a 41 year male about 6 months ago(7/23/10) i was hit by a car and suffered
non displaced fracture of the Tibia of my left leg.I must mention that the doctor sent me to therapy for two weeks before he did a MRI or knew i had the fracture. I was put in a stabilizing brace for about five weeks, after the brace i was sent back to therapy for six weeks. Here's where i need answers, after months of therapy and doctor visits i still have pain in my knee which is a burning pain in the front of my knee and a sharp pain in the area of the fracture. I still have problems with weight baring. My final visit to the doctor was 1/17/11, the final word of the doctor was that there was some cartilage that was rubbed off and that my pain may by caused from that. He said through working my knee that part of the cartilage should smooth out but my pain my last for 3 month to a year, the doctor said there's no surgery or shot that he can give to help. I wonder if this is right and could there be fragment of cartilage in my leg that cause my leg to get stuck or pop.
