Can you please tell me what can be the possible cause of it. All these problem are making my life so miserable at such a small age. I can t live a normal life anymore. Please help. : (
Hypothyroidism causes patients to get overweight and overweight works on the major joints, especially on the knees. I would recommend you to make sure your thyroid levels are normal with treatment and if you have not had a TSH and FT4 check in the last 6-12 months I would recommend you to have one done.
Losing weight is important for all knee problems. Another thing that affects the knees is if there is damage to the structures within the knee like ligaments and meniscus. In this case, a good visit with a doctor and rarely MRI is needed to determine if such damages are in the knee. According to the findings, the treatment is directed and most of the time some physiotherapy and painkillers are all that is needed.
If you get redness or swelling in the knees this is a sign of inflammation and you will need to see a rheumatologist to evaluate you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
