What Causes In The Right Groin Area?

I am a 57 year old male who has had an onset of stabbing pain in my right groin area within the last 2 weeks. I had open right inguinal hernia surgery 3 months ago, little pain after the first several days until now. The area on the side of the incision has some numbness, as does the inner thigh on the same side. Some referred pain occurs to the right hip area and toward the scrotum on that side as well, although not as severe as the abdominal area. When I get the pain, which comes and goes, I also notice it is like a throbbing, sometimes slightly burning. Moving certain ways seems to provoke the pain, which on a couple of occasions was relieved somewhat by bending forward. Is this possibly a nerve problem of some sort, possibly related to the surgery?
