What Causes Red Spots On The Buttocks Of A Child?

My 10 year old has several red spots (small, like a pin head size) on his buttocks, starting around the anus area and spreading out about 3 inches. They do not seem to bother him, no other symptoms. We were recently in Mexico, south of Cancun and he was in the ocean, sand, and pool a lot. Any suggestions?
