I am a DES daughter, exposed in utero during the mid-trimester through the end of my mother s pregnancy with me. I am watched very closely and examined, and pap smear every 6 months. Have had 1 miscarriage and 2 live births, am post menopausal, age 58. My last ultrsound shows several tiny echogenic foci in the endometrium suggestive of calcifications . My endometrium measures 6mm. No focal masses, no evidence of free fluid or pelvic mass. Ovaries are normal size. My gynecologist wants to perform a hysteroscopy and D. and C. of the uterus. I have read that these echogneic foci can be caused by many things...past biopsies, miscarriages, abortions, etc. I have also read that they are usually benign. I am of course concerned about cancer, given my DES exposure. Is what my gynecologist suggests doing, a hysteroscopy and D. and C. the best practice and a reasonable next step? I don t want more harm caused, but I want to be pro-active. Thank you!
