Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking remifemin for hot flushes and I think it has made one side if my face swell near jaw line and ear. Should I stop taking it, and will it go back to normal. Will evening primrose oil help with hot flushes rather than taking remifemin. Thanks.
Remifemin does contain black cohosh extract (from root/rhizome). If your face near jaw line is getting swollen while using Remifemin, I advise to stop using it for few days and see if any change.
If the swelling will disappear, then, do not use Remifemin again. Most probably, you are having allergic reaction to black cohosh or other inactive ingredients.
If the swelling is still there, should consult with your doctor for further evaluation.
With regards to primrose oil, I have advised it to some of my patients in menopause and they have reported good effects. However, I admit that they were also using chamomile/valerian tea at the same time together with changes in lifestyle and diet regimen.
Hope it was of help! Dr.Albana
