Why Is Procrit Not Used For MDS Patients? Father Is

why is Procrit not used for MDS patients?
Father is battling MDS. Had low platelet count, progressed to leukemia, now treated 1 week out of 5 with Dacogen, but other blood counts are suffering, neutropenia. New symptom is shortness of breath and lack of energy. I'm thinking he isn't getting enough oxygen due to low hemoglobin. Procrit helps anemic patients going through chemo, but doesn't seem to be recommended for bone marrow diseases. Why not and is there an alternative?
