"After his MD in General Medicine, had a residency in Cardiology at AIIMS, New Delhi under Dr. K K Talwar where young Coronary Artery Disease(CAD) started fascinating him. Received the Outstanding Clinician Award by the Wellcome Foundation, UK(a countrywide Medinova Group contest) in1999. He was awarded CSIR RA ship in molecular genetics following his brief stay at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm where he assisted Dr. C R Sanjeevi on HLA typing of young lean diabetics from Orissa. Shortly after this he went to Mayo Clinic,Rochester as a visiting clinician in the Departments of Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Preventive Cardiology where for the first time he came in contact with MDCT & realised its application of young heart attack and in diabetes. Was back after 9 months to join RTIICS, Kolkata as the consultant Internist Incharge where he served for more than 2 years. In 2003, his lecture on CAD in less than 45 at the International Society of Atherosclerosis at Athens earned accolades and opened avenues for him. Because of increasingly growing interest in Diabetes and related metabolic disorders during his stint at this hospital he was keen and got a chance to visit Joslin Diabetes Centre, Boston as an International Scholar of the year in 2003-2004. He had his thorough orientation in Clinical Diabetes, Obesity, Nutragenomics, Exercise Physiology and finally has been nominated (as well served thrice) as the Emeritus Faculty for South East Asia. In the mean time had an understanding about cardiac stem cell therapy(experimental – rodent model) with Dr. Chuck Murry from University of Washington, Seattle. In early 2005, he came back to Kolkata to join the then Suraksha Hospitals as the Head of Preventive Medicine and Clinical Advisor to Cardiac CT programme from where after the AMRI handover he joined Apollo Gleneagles Heart Clinic as the Consultant Internist & Clinic Incharge overseeing a preventive programme of atherosclerosis and metabolism and cardiac rehabilitation services. Served as Victoria Roopers fellow in Science under Dr. Vanderpum at the Royal Free Hospital on Metabolic Syndrome & Cardiovascular Diseases in 2004. Became the clinical advisor to the first stem cell company in the country "LifeCell" in 2005. He recently attended the International Osteoporosis Foundation symposium in Sydney as an international faculty. Published 23 papers in national & international journals and contributed chapters in 8 books. Contributes scientific articles to The Telegraph, The Times of India, Saptahik Bartaman for popular awareness.
