I had blood tests taken(2 times with a few months distance between them) and my ggt levels were elevated, they’re at around 90. All the other liver enzymes are fine. My Dr. asked me to do an ultrasound scan to investigate it further and they didn’t find anything abnormal there. That was 2 months ago. Now I started feeling nauseous after eating and have a bit of difficulty swallowing. I also feel a bit of pain right under my rib cage on the right side. I don’t do drugs and only drink in moderation(about 4 drinks a week). I am not overweight(182cm 73kg) and don’t have any medical conditions. The Dr. told me he doesn’t know what would be the cause of the high ggt and that it’s most likely nothing(I didn’t have pain back then). Should I be concerned about the high ggt and these symptoms? What could it be? Should I seek further medical assistance?
Brief Answer:
Probably liver dysfunction, follow the advice below
Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,
The high GGT usually level indicates a liver dysfunction.
Other conditions such as diabetes can also increase the level of GGT.
Another possible cause can be a high level of stress on the daily basis.
I recommend to do some other examinations for further evaluation:
-Test for Hepatitis B and C which is a viral infection
-Total and direct bilirubin level
-Glycemic level to check for a diabetes
In my opinion, you should also seek the opinion of a gastrologist for further evaluation.
Take care dear,
