Question: 1-What causes hot flash (a feeling of warmth spreading throughout the body most pronounced in the head and neck areas.) . Hot flushes sometimes associated with redness of the skin (flushing) but NO SWEATING . Body temperature normal . No symptoms of fever . I am a male 49 years . No allergy or chilli foods . Thyroid hormones tested and within the normal range (T3 ,T4 , TSH ) . Any suggestion ?


2-What hormones can cause this symptom ? What are the tests needed ?

Hot flashes in males of these age, except of thyroid pathologies may be caused by neuroendocrine tumors. Other symptoms are diarrhea, high blood pressure, ect
In these cases we suggest to check serotonine, 5-HIAA, Chromogranine A.
If one of these hormones results high, PET scan is suggested to try to find out the tumor producing too much hormone.
