Question: 1 week back my 5 years old daughter had vomiting, followed by loose motion and then fever, probably due to travel, bad food taken in train and road side, also missing daily homely food during our ture in XXXXXXX XXXXXXX vacation.
As consulted with doctor she was given 1. ONDEM, 2. Rantop, both for 3 days 3. Zifi for 5 days. She was almost cure in last few days and medicines also finished. But today there is again travel and she missing daily homely food, she took food in train. Now she had only loose motion with bad smel like early but no vomiting.
1. Can we use zn20 syrup now? It's night time and I don't have any other medicines now.
2. Does the doctor prescribe and medicines for loose motion when shown 1st time medicines given above.
3. Urine quantity is less since last few hrs we are monitoring this.
4. I am in remote place, hardly get a doctor's and medicines nearby. So need suggestions

Brief Answer:
Looks like viral diarrhoea

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in here.
It seems your kid is having viral diarrhoea. Once it starts it will take 5-7 days to completely get better. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.

There is no need to use antibiotics unless there is blood in the motion. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic associated diarrhoea.

I suggest you use zinc supplements (ZN20 5ml once a day if the strengh is 20 MG per 5 ml of zinc) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron (as prescribed by your paediatrician).
Regarding diet - You can use cerelac...any flavour will do. Avoid fruit juices as they might aggravate diarrhea. You can give zinc supplements & ORS apart from normal vegetarian porridges & soups.

Brief Answer:
Suggestions

Detailed Answer:
If there is fever then you can give Paracetamol - Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (maximum ceiling dose of 500mg) every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.

Keep her well hydrated so that she is having good urine output.

Fiver under control after giving paracetamol 1 time, hence no fever in last 12 hrs. Urine is well now and she seems ok.
No loose motion even potty after given ZN20 given yesterday at 8 pm. What's the frequency for giving zn20? Can I use it today also?

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on zinc supplements

Detailed Answer:
ZN 20 is the same as zinc supplements and you can use it 5 ml once daily for a period of 14 days and this is what I expressed in my last interaction.
