14 Years Old, Diagnosed With Gyneomastia. Is This Common In This Age?
Question: My son is 14 and at last yrs physical the dr mentioned gyneomastia.. He has man boobs. He is 6 feet 180 and could stand to lose a little in tummy and chest. But I have been researching and now worried abt klineflters. He just turned 14 has some body hair not much ..dr never mentioned private parts and has no learning disabilities. Is that common? I have bad health anxiety so I take things to the extreme. Are man boobs common? And again dr said they I'll probably go away in a couple of year thr puberty but I was researching and came across klineflters.
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
I am sorry to hear about your son.
Gynaecomastia is common in adolescent boys and they usually settle in time though they occasionally need surgery.
In Klinefelter Syndrome, there are some physical characteristics
(1)Weaker muscle strength
(2)Tall stature
(3)Less facial hair due to less male hormone
(4)Gynaecomastia
(5)Microorchitism ie Small testicles.
Some but not all have learning difficulties.
If you are that worried and anxious, please consult a pediatrician for Physical examination and Chromosomal study for diagnosis. Karyotype will be XXY instead of XY. I hope I answered your queries.
Kindest regards
Dr. S.K XXXXXXX

What distinguishes a small testicle from normal? He can't do push ups but otherwise is active his legs are strong but arms may not be as strong

Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
The normal testicle is 2 inches in length 1 to 1.5 inches in width.
There is an apparatus called Orchidometer to measure the size of testicle.
As regards to the muscle strength, with your subjective assessment, I am unable to comment.
I hope I have answered your queries.
Kindest regards
