18 Months Ago My Step Father Has Chronic Falls What Could Be Causes?
Question: 18 months ago my step father had fallen and broken his hip, long slow recovery and what appeared to be was a road of no return from dimensia, etc. Turned out, the hospital/home had allowed him to become dehydrated. Water cured it all. Home 2 months later. Now he is falling frequently, and recently when approached by an ambulance driver to help he, he fled, outran officers and was truly terrified when they caught him. He falls asleep anywhere, even eating meals, which of course leads to falling out of chairs, etc. He is a large man and my mom can not get him up by herself. He seems confused some of the time, and yet others, perfect clarity (when we talk baseball). I am concerned what is going on, he can't be running from officers, and he will get hurt again if he keeps falling. Suggestions? XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
Chronic falls causes
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can suggest you to check his blood sugar levels fasting and post prandial and HbA1c because hypoglycaemia can cause falls.
Also check with his doctor if he may be taking too much of blood pressure lowering medications.
Also inner ear infection can cause disbalance
I recommend
*keep blood sugar levels normal
*check blood lowering medications
*meet an ENT to check inner ear
* give him a support stick
* make sure his home has not carpet which slip
*adapt home with things for him to support.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
