Best Regards XXXXXXX Mittal
Ciplox (Ciprofloxacin) is not the right choice and 250 mg is too less.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear Ms XXXXXXX Mittal,
Welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have carefully studied your case and understand your concern.
Ciplox is the not the first line drug for pharyngitis/tonsillitis and the dose is 500 mg twice a day for a minimum of 5 days. That is the correct dosing of ciprofloxacin and we usually reserve ciplox for urinary tract infections as it highly active against the bacteria causing urinary tract infections and the bacteria causing pharyngitis tend to develop resistance to the medicine very fast and particularly when the dose is low and is given for shorter than ideal duration like in your case.
Whoever advised you that medicine should either have a very strong reason to do so, like allergies to Macrolides and Penicillin group. Otherwise that person/doctor is very wrong.
Now coming to prescribing you medicines, I must apologise to you, we can not legally provide you with prescriptions for antibiotics without physically examine you in person.
In my practice, I usually prescribe Azithromycin 500 milligrams on day 1, followed by 250 milligrams of azithromycin every 24 hours once for the next 4 days.
Apart from that, you will be relieved of symptoms if you take an antipyretic - paracetamol 650 milligrams (Dolo 650) every 8 to 6 hours once for 5 days, this for fever.
I also advice my patients to do salt water gargling and steam inhalation 4 times a day.
In addition to that gargling with chlorhexidine mouthwash or betadine gargles will cure you of the infection much faster. I usually recommend gargling after each meal.
For throat itching and irritation and cough you can continue okacet. I usually prescribe Ebastine with phenylephrine to my patients, twice a day for 5 days.
I hope you will find this information useful. Kindly consult a qualified (at least MBBS or MD in modern medicine) and get examined and get these medicines prescribed.
Wishing you speedy recovery.
Best regards
