33, Male, Healthy, Quit Smoking Almost 3 Years Ago, Still

Question: 33, Male, Healthy, quit smoking almost 3 years ago, still drink. History of what I suspect are facial herpes on chin as well as herpes on lip periodically. For the past 5 days or so I have had some pain underneath the right side of my tongue. The pain is accompanied by some small whitish looking bumps and some redness, and just as an aside there has been some pain in my ear on the same side of my face, which I do get seasonally but I wonder if the two issues are related.

It mainly hurts/burns somewhat when eating or moving the tip of my tongue from one side of my mouth to the other, almost feels like a cut. I have attached pictures, the first one showing the affected side of my tongue, the second showing the unaffected side for comparison, and the last showing my tongue raised to the roof of my mouth and showing both sides simultaneously.

I would say that the area on the affected side of my tongue feels slightly harder/more firm than the unaffected side. Any insight would be helpful, I am a hypochondriac and am hoping that this is just some sort of routine infection. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Please upload pictures

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the query.

Well, small bumps underneath the tongue along with pain can be due to Apthous ulcers or canker sores.

It is not necessarily herpes.

Please upload the pictures again as I have not received any till now..

Thanks.

I replied with 3 pictures in the order I described in the previous message. 1st is the side of the tongue with the issue, second is the side without, 3rd is my tongue pressed on the roof of my mouth showing both sides.

My understanding was that a canker sore was typically a depression in the mouth were as a herpes sore was a bump?

I have attached 3 more photos that I hope show better clarity. I've figured out how to adjust clarity settings on this phone so let me know if you need me to retake the shots or send a different angle of the mouth.

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Looks like Canker sores

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Well, the appearance of the sores looks like Canker sores only..
Apply Chlorhexidine gel over the sores.
Take Vitamin B complex daily.
Do warm saline gargles.
Avoid spicy, sharp and very hot and sour foods.
Drink plenty of water.

Do let me know after 5 days.

Thanks

Thank you! Being a hypochondriac my greatest concern was that it wasnt something more series like Oral Herpes or Oral Cancer due to my history of smoking and drinking. If this does not look like that to you then you have certainly greatly put me at ease.

I appreciate your attentiveness to my questions.
