5 Days Ago I Developed Flu And Bronchitis At The

Question: 5 days ago i developed flu and bronchitis at the same time. I have been prescribed Levofloxacin for Bronchitis. I'm allergic to Penicillin and derivatives.

I've 2 questions.

1. Considering it happened at the same time, it's likely it is caused by the same virus. Why am I getting prescribed an antibiotic when they dont target viruses? Is it to prevent secondary infections?

2. When i take Levofloxacin, I start to perspire slightly for 2-3 hours (not profusely, just enough to get clammy arms). Is this a common side effect? I read online that sweating should be reported, but it is only mentioned as part of a risk to a low blood sugar level. My glucose levels are fine, (5-6 on average) I've a testing device at home. The only other side effect I'm experiencing is kind of dizzyness/pressure in the lowerback of my head. I'm not sure how to desribe it, it's not a headache, not dizzyness, not vertigo, not pressure, just a very mild weird feeling. No other side effects.

Brief Answer:
Dizziness and headache probably a side effect of levofloxacine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
1. If you developed flu which can be caused by a virus and also bronchitis can be caused by the same virus. Antibiotics are prescribed because there can be a secondary infection over the viral infection.
2. Perspiration 2-3 hours after taking levofloxacine us not a side effect of it. Also if your blood sugar levels are OK it is not even related to hypoglycaemia.
Possibly it can be related to the flu and the overall situation you are having, flu and bronchitis.

The headache or kind of dizziness you are having may be related to levofloxacine intake. I can recommend you to also take a multivitamin.
You have to cope with this because taking levofloxacine toll the end of treatment is necessary.

Hope I have answered the question.

Thank you for your answers.

I have a tooth infection that even after a root canal treatment won't go away completely. It keeps coming back every few months so will see an endodontist in a few weeks. Until then the dentist has given me Erythromycin and Metronidazole to control the infection.

My question, do i finish the Levofloxacin course first, or can i take it together with the above two antibiotics?

Brief Answer:
You can take them both.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again. You can take all the antibiotics safety because they don't interact with each other. I would better recommend you to finish levofloxacine and then erythromycin and metronidazole.
Wishing you good.
Best regards
