Question: 50 year old female in good health with no hypertension history. I had a spike in my BP 8 days ago. EKG and x-ray are normal. Headaches continue in the back of my head and ears area. Doctor told me to take Flonase spray and Zyrtec for allergies. I am taking both, plus Tylenol for the headache. As well, they told me to take metoprolol 25mg, 1/2 and 1/2 or a total of one pill per day if BP went to high. Now, it at 139/96 so I was considering taking it because the diastolic number is high. Can I take all this combination of medicines at the same time ? When doctor gave me the Flonase, he knew si was. It taking metoprolol. It is a weekend and I cannot contact my doctors office. Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that a calcium channel blocker like amlodipin or lercanidipin would be safer treatment options for high blood pressure in your clinical condition, because it is well known that betablockers ( including Metoprolol) can worsen shortness of breath, especially in sensitive persons or those suffering from asthma.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above treatment options.
Anyway, there is no interaction between your current therapy and Metoprolol and it is OK to take all them concomitantly. So, it is OK to take it today.

Hope to have been helpful to you!
