Hi and Welcome to "Ask A Doctor" service. I have read your question and here is my advice.
This is quite good that you are follwoing diet and excercise program to loose weight. 40 minutes excercise daily is fair enough .However you are right , some times this may not be sufficient though it is must .There are few things that can be done besides diet and excercise ( both of which are must ) . This includes certain drugs , or rarley surgory depending on the BMI .
This would be great if you could share with us what is your current weight and BMI.After that we may be thinking about what else can be done if needed.
looking forward to your reply ,
Dr Rahman

My weight is 160, down from 170, and height is 5 ft 3 inches. Weight 6 years ago 140, height 5 ft 5 inches.. Broken bones and retirement hindered any exercise at all for almost 2 years. Severe osteoporosis from 5 years on Arimdex for breast cancer. Considering overall health and age I feel that I am doing well, just want to do better.
.
I eliminated red meat one year ago. I felt better but not much weight loss. I am eating fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, limited sugar, fish, limited eggs.
It is evident that I am losing inches in my clothes and buying new clothes.
thank you for more information..

HI, thanks fro providing the informations.
keeping your hight in mind , 160 lbs is not that bad.Though the 140 lbs aim is excellent and quite achievable. lets work for that .
I am really sorry to hear about your other problems and how it effected your routine. But am glad to see your courage and fighting them back .
The diet you are observing is quite fine .excercise of 40 minutes daily is sufficient enough.I hope this will work and you will achieve your target of 140 lbs in some times.Thats why you lost 10 lbs and reduced size of wears. Let this take it time .don't be hasty here.if you are losing 1 lbs in 1 to 2 weeks ,that's quite fine.
Howe'ver if you fail to loose weight , in spite of above in few months ,we can always think of adding a drug called orlistate which may help further reduce weight. But I dont think you would need that seeing your hight and weight.
wish you all the best .
And I am sure you will be taking treatment for your osteoporosis, calsium and vit d supplimnts.
let me know if you any further question. I will be glad to answer.
Regards
