A Couple Of Days Ago I Booked An Appointment With

Question: A couple of days ago I booked an appointment with a physiotherapist as my neck has been bothering me. When I went to the appointment I explained that my neck and back have been sore and did not want to see a chiropractor, but wanted some exercises and for her to have a look. She had me lay face down and did some gentle manipulation which she said was to make my neck less tight (base of neck and sides) and then had me roll over on to my back and placed small electrodes which are said to stimulate and massage (like a tens machine) and these were left on for 15 min. My neck has been a bit sore ever since but what really concerns me is the fact that I have been dizzy ever since. I called and they said she will speak with me on Monday, but I dont know if my dizziness was caused from the treatment or is something else. I had no dizziness prior to the treatment??? Should I be concerned? I feel dizzy and feel my balance is also a bit off. My appointment in total was approx. 20 - 30 minutes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your symptoms seem to be related to cervical spondilosis.
It is very common at your age.
I suggest to do an x-ray of the neck to confirm the diagnosis.
Meanwhile, I suggest to take anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three tablets a day.
I also suggest to use an anti-inflammatory cream for local application such as Volaren cream.
I recommend to use hot compresses at the neck area to help with muscle relaxation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello and thank you for your response. In regards to my neck with the dizziness, would this have created any permanent damage? Also how long for the dizziness/wooziness to subside as I never had this prior to treatment. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
The dizziness is due to temporarily damage of the neck.
Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,
The dizziness can be caused by neck, minor injury after the manipulation by the chiropractor.
It is not caused by a permanent damage.
In this case the dizziness goes away on its own in a few days.
I suggest to use Meclizine Hydrochloride for the dizziness.
I also recommend to drink plenty of water and rest.
Hope my answer was helpful.
Take care dear,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
