Question: A friend of mine uses Topomax for migraines. The generic version doesn’t seem to work. She has received some financial relief from XXXXXXX & XXXXXXX in the past to cover the expense of the name brand. She cannot get this service any longer. Can you think of any alternatives for her? The migraines are incapacitating and frequent.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

Besides Topamax, other prophylactic migraine treatment ways include betablocker drugs ( propranolol ), tricyclic antidepressants ( amitryptilin etc.), valproate, methysergide, etc.

It is necessary to discuss with your friend's Neurologist for the substitution of the topamax with one of the above mentioned possible drugs that may be more appropriate regarding your friend's condition and the economic problem.
