Abdominal Ultrasound Showed Grade 1 Increase In Cortical Echogenicity. What Does This Mean?
Thanks for writing to us,
The diseased kidney is graded into three types based on echogenicity. Grade1(mild), Grade2(moderate) and Grade3(severe).
In grading an kidney disease, echogenicity is used to explain the depth of the differentiation of diseased kidney under abdominal scan.
Grade 1 means the Kidney parenchyma is isoechoic (similar) to the liver, but there is still cortiomedullary differentiation(but retains its normal cellular differentiation. )
Bilateral represents both the sides.
RESULT: In simple terms, both kidney shows normal cellular differentiation, but its consistency is getting equivalent to liver. These things are to be considered and a follow up scans are done to compare them to the previous reports.
There cannot be any definite conclusion about particular disease.

Thank you,take care.
