Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
I read your query and understand your concerns.
There are following possibilities which could be the cause for the experienced twitching over the last one month.
1. Loss of muscle tone- As we all are aware that with advanced age the tone of muscle loses which becomes much evident when the muscle is unsupported. While you are keeping the particular fingers away in certain positions this seems to be most likely cause. The possibility is more as there is no loss of muscle strength.
The second event is also appears related as there was twitching after some form of exertion which occurs often with advanced age.
The available description does not signify something serious as this is common problem with advancement of age and often non serious.
However if the problem recurs frequently or there is loss of muscle strength you need to seek a neurologist for examination as this could be something serious such as motor neuron diseases.
I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.

The problem with the twitching of my index finger of my left hand when holding it away from my other fingers but not exerting any force against anything seems to be constant. .It does not twitch if applying strength such as opening a bottle or picking up something with my thumb and index finger. It seems to only twitch when holding it away and upward but not exerting any muscular force. it does not twitch at all if I hold my fingers together and out stretched.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.
Although both the events of muscle twitching are related, there is clear distinction between both of events. The one was due to excessive fatigue while the other was positional. The reason for relating both of them is based on the fact that both of them arose from loss of muscle tone due to ageing.
I understand that you provided more details but I do not think it will change my answer in any form at this stage.
In case you have more questions, feel free to post to me.
I will be glad to answer you further.
Thanks again.
