After My Last Colonoscopy , During A Follow Up Exam
Since that colonoscopy I have had the feeling of increased pressure almost constantly and have much difficulty passing gas.
I developed multiple hernias and had them repaired by a different surgeon. The first hospital sent a notice that it is time for another colonoscopy and I am very wary.
I’m considering having the general surgeon who did the hernia repair conduct the colonoscopy rather than the gastroenterologist.
My question is two fold:
1) why would a doctor put 3 loops into a colon?
2) if it were you which doctor would you choose to perform the next colonoscopy?
Please go through the detailed answer.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing 'Ask a Doctor' service for your query,
1) The most likely cause can be an elongated colon. Some people have colon longer than the usual which some times may cause problems like increased bloating abdominal distention poor digestion etc.
That may be the only reason I can understand for putting 3 loops. A better way is that ask your gastro directly why he put them and let's analyze his statement. In an asymptomatic patient, I can't say what he was thinking.
2) Theoretically, a Gastroenterologist is far better trained then a general surgeon who deals with surgery of all parts of the body. Colonoscopy is the work of a Gastroenterologist.
Hope I was XXXXXXX and easy to understand.
Feel free to write back.
