Question: Age: 23
Weight: 265-280
Height: 5’10
Gender: Male
Medications: Breo Ellipta, Ventolin
Health Conditions: Asthma, (family history of HBP)

Woke up at 3:00AM and couldn’t breathe. Took 5 puffs of inhaler before I could get any breaths in. Paramedics took me to the hospital, they said everything was looking good like my EKG, no wheezing etc after the breathing treatments.

They gave me prednisone in the hospital before they discharged me, and they gave me a prescription for it as well (which I haven’t gotten yet because I don’t like the symptoms I’m having). I’m a heavy marijuana user or was... Starting the night this happened. So I’ve been coming down from smoking as well.

Started to experience very bad anxiety, I believe, the following night.

Heart palpitations
Dizziness
Lightheaded
Feeling disassociated (or foggy I suppose it is)
Sweaty hands and feet
Feeling panicked
Had been shooting my heart rate up to like 120-140bpm during the time
BP went up to 162/82 when it started

I eventually calmed down enough to fall asleep and today I feel anxious and have the same thing except it isn’t as bad as it was last night.

Is this the side effects of the drug? Or a combination of coming off marijuana + prednisone?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of withdrawal due to these drugs is more likely.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed history you have given.
In my opinion, your symptoms are not due to side effect.
They are due to withdrawal from Marijuana and steroid (prednisone).
But better to consult emergency room and get done atleast ecg to rule out heart diseases for your tachycardia.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
