Am Pregnant After IVF, History Of Miscarriage. Is It Safe To Fly So Long As I Take Necessary Precautions?

Question: Hi, i'm not sure if i'm posting this in the correct place? I am currently 6wks pregnant after IVF/PGD (PGD as my Husband has Marfan...we have no fertility issues). During previous treatments I suffered a very early M/C on the first treatment (2-3wks) and it was discovered that I have autoimmune issues, steroids (20mg prednisolone) for the first 12wks of pregnancy and clexane (40mg)/aspirin throughout the pregnancy and 6wks post-partum. Consequently our 2nd treatment worked, although I M/C one of my twins at 9 1/2wks with no underlying reasons other than it was probably a genetic flaw with the baby. I was just wondering if it would be safe to fly (2hrs) when i'm around 17wks pregnant so long as I take the necessary precautions when flying i.e. wearing flight socks, keeping rehydrated, keeping mobile and continuing my meds as prescribed. Also is swimming safe in early pregnancy? Many thanks XXXXXXX

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
During pregnancy, it is recommended to avoid any kind of abdominal stress and anxiety.
Swimming as such is not contraindicated in pregnancy but in your case since you have a history of early pregnancy loss, it is best to avoid swimming for a long time.
Regarding the flight at 17 weeks, you can proceed with the arrangements after taking adequate precautions and consulting your treating gynecologist just before the journey to make sure that everything is going well.
Hope this answers your query. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Swimming is best avoided during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy to avoid any rise in the abdominal pressure.
You can start swimming after 12 weeks that too for short time periods initially to check that it does not induce any kind of abdominal discomfort or dizziness.
To maintain fitness during the pregnancy , yoga is a better and safer option under the guidance of a proficient trainer.
Hope my answer is helpful.
