It's not likely that the infection is causing the tube not to go further.
I think possibly you reached the urinary sphincter muscle which is possibly prohibiting you to do self catheterization.
It is about 6 inch from the opening of the urethra. Having a deep breath or increasing abdominal pressure may have helped you.
I don't think this can be related to the infection.
