Any Advice You Could Give Me For Lowering Blood Pressure

default
Posted on 20 hours ago
Question: I am a male of 80 years old. In August last year Ramipril 2.5 was prescribed for me. I took it until I had to take Tamsulosin, towards the end of the year. This had the effect of lowering my blood pressure too, so I gradually "phased out" Ramipril a few weeks ago. My blood pressure normally ranges from 130 sys. to 145 sys. However, because I also had to take Blanel effervescent tablets for kidney stones beginning of February, this seemed to make everything go haywire. Sometimes my blood pressure was 90 sys to something and other times it was even 160/95. I realised quite early that Ramipril was doing me good but since I've had blood pressure readings of 108 or 109 sys. but in spite of that my blood pressure spikes to 150 or 160 sometimes, I am at a total loss to know what to do. I have no idea. In the meantime I have finished the course of treatment with Blanel. I'd be really grateful for any advice you could give me.

Detailed Answer:
Hii. Welcome to the healthcare services. You should do some blood tests like urea, creatinine, haemoglobin, serum electrolyte, lipid profile. You also need to do an ecg and echocardiogram to see if there is any abnormality. We need to find out if there is any secondary cause for your blood pressure. If there is no abnormality in any of your test then u can start with tab Amlodipine 5 mg once daily and monitor your blood pressure for next 1 week. You should maintain your systolic blood pressure between 140-150 mm hg and not less than that. If needed you can add another 5 mg Amlodipine to maintain the desired blood pressure. Are you having any urinary incontinence for which you are taking tamsulosin? If there is any abnormality in the above tests then you can consult a physician or a medicine doctor for further management. Please review if you have any queries.
