Apparently I Am Suffering From Silent Reflux And I Am
Question: Apparently I am suffering from silent reflux and I am prescribed Gaviscon. Shortly after I have eaten I am suddenly hit by the effects of a severe head cold-sinuses fill up,head and eyes become heavy, nose runs,begin to cough and generally feel most unwell but cannot sleep because of choking sensation caused by mucus. I am exhausted- What can I do?

I can understand your concern
As you explain the situation these are signs of sinusitis which is the inflammation of the air cavities in the frontal head area.
The fact that the secretions are running is a good thing that there is a dranaige.First that I recommend you is to do nasal spray with normal saline water several times daily and second to be sure you should do a sinusal X ray to see better that are.
In actual conditions of you don't have fever and the secretions are in white colour than only painkillers are recommended.If not than antibiotics should be started.
However it is your doctor that should decide about it evaluating you closely.
Meanwhile continue Gaviscon instead safely.

I was seen by an ENT Consultant some months ago who checked my sinuses and said there was no problem with them and diagnosed silent reflux. This surprised me since I was unaware of any acid problem although I have developed a problem with excessive gas. The Gaviscon does however work to some extent though I have to use it every time I eat. Is this normal?I had hoped you may come up with any other suggestions as to how I could control the symptoms since I am quite exhausted due to the fact that the symoptoms are causing severe sleep disruption.

If you have already control the sinuses and nothing wrong with them than I can say tha Gaviscon is not working so much and the reflux is not in control.So you can contact again with your treating doctor to change the current treatment.
